TV Broadcast
"...and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the ends of the earth." - Acts 1:8 NIV

While television didn't begin in the 1950's, most people did not have a television before then.
Approximately one million television sets were in homes by 1949 and by 1950, ten million
TV sets were in homes. And back then, there wasn't much of it - mostly in the afternoons
and evenings. In 1955, not one person in Columbia, SC could watch a worship service by television,
that is, until First Baptist Church began broadcasting their live worship service in September of that year.
Today, because of the vision of First Baptist Church, each Sunday, we now reach more than
75,000 households throughout South Carolina and parts of Georgia and North Carolina.
Jesus calls each of us to be His witnesses throughout the world. For over a half-century,
First Baptist has witnessed to "Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria" by broadcasting, first in Columbia,
then the Florence and the Greenville areas. In 2006, the television ministry was expanded to the
Charleston, SC broadcast market. Then in 2007, the tremendous advances in technology have allowed
First Baptist to begin broadcasting our live worship services over the internet - "to the ends of the earth."
These are exciting times! We are part of a team sharing the love of Jesus Christ with people
all over the world.
Just think...we are changing the lives of people we have never seen, living in places that we have never been!
First Baptist has the unique distinction of being one of the longest-running live broadcasts in America.
Long after Gunsmoke, I Love Lucy, Bonanza and Ed Sullivan ceased programming,
First Baptist continues broadcasting the Good News. While the message is still the same,
technology is constantly changing, requiring more equipment and more personnel to produce
our Sunday morning worship service.
Our media team is blessed with some very talented and dedicated volunteers.
And our team is growing!
With the recent digital production room upgrades and additions to our production facility,
we need many more volunteers to serve one or two Sundays per month.

We have a place for you!
